Two scripts, two moods

Bold script (U+1D4D0) is heavy and even, closer to a calligraphy pen, and stays readable on small phone screens. Light script (U+1D49C) is thinner and more elegant, but its letters come from two Unicode blocks, so a few (โ„ฌ, โ„ฐ, โ„ฑ, โ„‹, โ„, โ„’, โ„ณ, โ„›, โ„ฏ, โ„Š, โ„ด) can look a little different in some fonts.

Is this real calligraphy?

No. These are fixed script letterforms supplied by the readerโ€™s own phone or computer font, so they wonโ€™t connect like handwriting. For real calligraphy you need an image. For a bio or username that must stay text, script Unicode is the closest you can get.

How do I get cursive on Instagram?

Why do some cursive letters look different?

Eleven script letters existed in Unicode before the math script block, so they live in the Letterlike Symbols block and are drawn by a different part of the font. Theyโ€™re correct, just drawn slightly differently.

Can I use cursive for a username?

Usually only for a display name. Instagram, TikTok, Discord and X usernames (handles) accept only letters, numbers and a few symbols like _ and ., so script characters are rejected there.
