Bubble letters as text vs. as drawings

If you want puffy hand-drawn bubble letters for a poster, you need a drawing or an image. Bubble text here is different: each letter is a single Unicode character inside a circle or square, so it can go in a bio or a chat name. Circled letters (Ⓐ) date back to Japanese and Korean enclosed characters. The filled and squared ones come from the Enclosed Alphanumeric Supplement added in Unicode 6.0 and 6.1.

Why circled numbers stop at 9 here

Unicode has circled numbers up to ⑳ and filled ones to ⓴, but TextForge converts one digit at a time so any number works. "12" becomes ①②, which is easy to read in any font.

Why do black bubble letters look like emoji on my phone?

Letters like 🅰 and 🅱 also have emoji versions, so iPhone and Android may draw those few in colour while the rest stay flat. The other filled letters stay black and white.
