❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about TextForge

What is TextForge and how does it work?

TextForge is a free online tool that converts your regular text into 80+ different Unicode font styles. It works by mapping standard characters to their Unicode equivalents in mathematical alphanumeric symbols and other Unicode blocks. No images or special fonts required - just copy and paste the converted text anywhere!

Is TextForge really free? Are there any hidden costs?

Yes, TextForge is completely free to use with no hidden costs, subscriptions, or premium tiers. All 80+ font styles and features are available to everyone without registration.

Do I need to install anything or create an account?

No installation or registration required! TextForge works entirely in your web browser. Just type your text, copy the styled version, and paste it wherever you need it.

Where can I use these Unicode fonts?

You can use the converted text anywhere that supports Unicode, including Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, Discord, TikTok, WhatsApp, Telegram, and most other social media platforms, messaging apps, and websites.

Why do some fonts not show up correctly on certain platforms?

Unicode font support depends on the platform and device you're using. Some older systems or apps may not support all Unicode characters. If a font doesn't display correctly, try a different style or use a more modern platform/device.

Are these real fonts or images?

These are real Unicode text characters, not images or embedded fonts. This means they're searchable, selectable, and work with screen readers. They maintain the functionality of regular text while looking styled.

What is the difference between fancy fonts and cursive fonts?

Fancy fonts typically include decorative styles like bold serif, double-struck, and ornamental characters. Cursive fonts use Unicode's mathematical script characters that resemble handwritten or calligraphy-style lettering. Both are Unicode text, not images.

How do the special generators (glitch, cursed, bubble, etc.) work?

Special generators apply unique transformations: Glitch text adds random Unicode combining marks for a corrupted effect. Cursed/Zalgo text uses diacritical marks above, below, and through characters. Bubble text uses enclosed alphanumeric Unicode characters. Mirror text reverses your text. Upside-down text uses rotated Unicode equivalents. Wingdings converts text to Wingdings-style symbols.

Can I save my favorite fonts?

Yes! Click the star icon on any font card to add it to your favorites. Your favorites are saved locally in your browser (up to 100 fonts) and you can export them as JSON for backup.

How does the history feature work?

TextForge automatically saves your last 50 text conversions in your browser's local storage. You can view, restore, or clear your history from the History page. Your history is private and never leaves your device.

Is my text data stored on your servers?

No. All text conversion happens in your browser. Your text, favorites, and history are stored locally on your device using IndexedDB and never sent to our servers. TextForge respects your privacy.

How do I share my styled text with others?

Use the Share button on any font card to generate a URL that includes your text and selected font. When someone opens the link, they'll see your styled text pre-loaded in TextForge. You can also generate a QR code for easy mobile sharing.

What does the "Recently Copied" section show?

The "Recently Copied" section on the Library page shows the last 5 fonts you copied, making it quick to reuse your most recent conversions without searching again.

Can I use TextForge on mobile devices?

Absolutely! TextForge is fully responsive and works great on smartphones and tablets. You can even install it as a Progressive Web App (PWA) for offline access and a native app-like experience.

Does TextForge work offline?

Yes! TextForge is a Progressive Web App (PWA) that caches all necessary files. After your first visit, it will work offline. Your favorites and history are always available since they're stored locally.

Are there any character limits?

There are no hard character limits for text conversion. However, extremely long texts (10,000+ characters) might slow down the browser. For best performance, we recommend keeping texts under 5,000 characters.

Can I use TextForge for commercial purposes?

Yes, you can use TextForge and the converted text for both personal and commercial purposes. The Unicode characters are part of the Unicode standard and not proprietary.

How do I report a bug or request a feature?

We welcome feedback! Since TextForge is privacy-focused and doesn't collect data, we don't have a built-in feedback form. However, feel free to reach out through our social media channels or submit issues on our GitHub repository.

What browsers are supported?

TextForge works on all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera. For the best experience, we recommend using the latest version of your browser. Internet Explorer is not supported.

Can I contribute new font styles or features?

TextForge is limited to Unicode characters, so new "fonts" depend on the Unicode standard. However, we're always open to suggestions for new special generators, UI improvements, or additional platforms support!
